I have always loved the look of large scale RC, even since my first hobby grade Traxxas Stampede that my dad bought me I have wanted to have a big RC.  Well one day I finally decided to just start piecing one together.  Sure, you could just buy an entire used UDR for a couple hundred bucks and be done with it,  but I get a lot of fun from actually assembling a vehicle piece by piece.  It makes it that much more rewarding once I can finally throw batteries in and run it around!

To begin a build such as this I went to every one's favorite auction site FleaBay and found a pretty cheap used chassis.

It is a fairly rough example of a chassis, but hey, it was cheap. I also went and found a set of steering bell cranks with the rods for about half price in brand new condition so that will hold me over for a good bit of time while I collect more parts.

I knew that the UDR was big in pictures compared to other models like the slash, but I am still just amazed after getting this in hand and placing one of my 1/10 touring cars beside it!

I found a Front bulkhead/ differential assembly from a Ebay store that deals in parting out what seems to be new off the shelf vehicles.

I am pretty happy to have gotten the main bulkhead, complete differential, bottom steel plate, front suspension hinge steel plate, and all the suspension pins for just the price of a new differential from traxxas directly.  It is nearly half priced compared to getting the pieces individually.

Different From Standard

Let me start by saying I don't hate Traxxas electronics, I just prefer Spektrum as it gives me a much easier time to deal with.

I chose to run a Spektrum 150A esc 2050KV combo that usually comes in the infractions.

This pairing fits in the chassis perfectly, so much so that the ESC mounts right into the factory holes.

I did however have to make my own power cable mount and cut out a hole for the motor wires.
